Naeem and I are installing Windows XP on my Intel Mac Mini. Not the Apple Computer version, called Boot Camp, which would require constant rebooting. Rather, we’re running Parallels Workstation to run Windows inside an application on the Mac. Aside from a little trouble turning the Windows XP install CD into an ISO ( I haven’t figured out how to get Parallels to read the actual CD/DVD drive), the installation seems to be going fine. 24 more minutes and Windows setup is complete!
[update 9pm] Installation is complete. With 146 MB of ram allocated to XP, on a 4GB partition, it restarts in 1 minute, 4 seconds, inside the Parallels OS X program. Feels smooth and nice, but I’m sure it will be much happier with more ram installed.
[update2: 3pm 4/8] It won’t install Civilization 4. 🙁 Civ 4 keeps asking to install DirectX, and I have that installed. I think it’s because sound isn’t implemented yet.
on the plus side, Parallels is offering 10 bucks off for early registration, so I went ahead and took advantage of that.
