Grand Canyon hike Day 4: Deer Creek

Here’s some more pictures, hastily thrown together, of Deer Creek

Toliet

I particularly like the fact the park service has installed a nice clean toliet, to promote sanitary conditions in the wilderness. This thing must of been helicoptered in. I know it’s better for the environment to use it, than to leave droppings behind in the wilderness, where they decay slowly, but it was a bit of a shock to me to round a corner and see:

In Deer Creek, as at Thunder River, there was a tremendous amount of water flowing. Last time I was there, in 2000 on a raft trip, we climbed down into the narrows. This time we just stood on top, and looked at all the fun water cascading down into the deep.

Bill in the narrows

I can think of much worse places to be on a warm May afternoon than in the narrows of Deer Creek.
