On day 3 of our hike down the Bill Hall trail, we crossed Surprise Valley from Thunder River to Deer Creek. We got a late start, around 6:30am, and the sun was already warm in the sky. It took us about 3 hours to cross the valley, and then another 2 hours to descend the 1200 feet into Deer Canyon. We stopped and enjoyed Deer Spring, where more water flows out of the rock. There are few things in life as refreshing as cool water flowing right out of the rock, on a hot summer day.
So what kind of bug life do you encounter out in the desert anyway that the netting is helpful?
One of these:

Heh heh. I’ve seen some of the bugs down there, and that isn’t all that far from the truth…
Incredible sunset shots again there at the last.
