South Gate City Council March 2005 Election Returns

Ok, at 10pm, with 9 of the 16 precincts reporting, my dad is in second with 1489 votes. His “running mate” Gil Hurtado has 1500. Rudy Navarro is in first for treasurer. He’s ok, but made some mistakes in his first term, in my opinion.

I didn’t really care about Prop P. It will allow the city to issue parking permits for certain areas, so you have to be a resident to park there. I voted no, but I can see good reasons why in certain areas. But it will also end up limiting the ability of people to visit certain areas.

Prop S I was highly against. It’s the 5% utility tax. I find it to be highly anti-business. I could go on, but hopefully, it’s a moot issue now.

What does this all mean for me? Hard to tell. With my dad being back in elected office for 4 more years (or so it looks right now), he will have some less time for certain family business measures. This will play out in the next few months, and we shall see how it affects me directly and indirectly.
