I missed the Perseid meteor shower this morning, as I had to be in the LA basin to go to work this morning. But there’s another meteor shower coming! The Aurigids will be about 4am on Saturday, September 1st. Anyone want to go out to the desert or mountains and see them?Â
As has been the family tradition the past few years, we were up in Mammoth over Christmas. While I returned home early today, I did get in some skiing on the 24th, and we did a nice little hike on the 25th.

On day 3 of our hike down the Bill Hall trail, we crossed Surprise Valley from Thunder River to Deer Creek. We got a late start, around 6:30am, and the sun was already warm in the sky. It took us about 3 hours to cross the valley, and then another 2 hours to descend the [...]
On Day 2 of the hike down the Bill Hall trail, we had a day of rest at Thunder River. My leg was still bothering me, so I only carried water down there, and rested all day in the shade.
