Weighs more than I thought it would

I’m heading out on Friday for a 50 mile backpack trip in the Sierras. The actual hike starts on Sunday morning at Mosquito Flats near Tom’s Place, and ends on Friday June 18 in Red’s Meadow.

So far, my backpack weight, before food and water, is over 20 pounds! Much more than I thought it would be. I’m trying to figure out what to drop, as I plan on adding 10 to 12 pounds of food, and to usually carry 4 to 5 pounds of water, and up to 8 pounds as need be. That all adds up to a possible 40 pound starting weight. This is much better than I used to be, but not good. Add in the camera gear, and I’m probably pushing way past 50 pound starting weight. I need to trim a few things….

Things left to add to my pack: Food, water, Battery Lantern, reading material. And Camera gear… 5 to 10 pounds worth!

Things I plan to wear/carry: Trekking poles, boots, socks, long sleeve hiking shirt, convertible pants, hat, sunglasses.
