APO 200-500mm F2.8 EX DG – SIGMA CORPORATION

Ooooh, I want one! The Sigma Corporation announced a new lens this week at one of the annual photo shows, a APO 200-500mm F2.8 EX DG monster.

Look at the far right, there’s the camera!

I think that’d be a nice fit in my backpack while camping. I can’t imagine the cost though, it probably falls in the “If you have to ask, you can’t afford it” range.

But that can’t stop me from drooling over it if I ever see it in person.

Man, you could get some awesome depth of field out of that thing — like with a difference of a couple inches… at a hundred feet!

Then again any lens that has a rather robust looking carrying handle must be more of a bear than it’s worth.

You’d probably be better off with a Mead or Celestron cassegrain. Might even work out to the same price, and you’d have a dual purpose ‘lens’ with a motorized tripod and a great platform for those night shots you’ve been taking.

Hey, guess what? Luis is getting that big tax refund this year, so…

I know. Don’t know if I’d want one (or more specifically if I’d want to carry it around), but I’d be a fool not to be impressed by that monster…
