Arizona Trip

Monday, August 28th, 2006

I was in Phoenix the past few days, visiting some friends, some customers, doing some sight seeing, and then watching the Dodgers beat the Diamondbacks 6 to 5 on Saturday, on a Jeff Kent homerun.
My pics of the travel part of the trip are in my photogallery.
Here’s some highlighted shots:

It just needs to be said tonight….

Wednesday, August 23rd, 2006

That the umpires in San Diego, for the Dodger/Padres’s game, need to be reprimanded for several really bad calls.
I’m up early tomorrow to take my dad to the airport, and then it’s off to work in the morning! yippie!

Dodgers and Padres

Monday, August 21st, 2006

Well, after winning 2 out of 3 from San Francisco over the weekend, the Dodgers dropped the first of three games to the Padres tonight, 4 to 2. They had a two to nothing lead, and then blew it.
At least it was up on TV tonight, so I could listen to Vin Scully, instead of [...]

Two losses in a row

Friday, August 18th, 2006

The Dodgers have now dropped 2 in a row. The sky is falling, they are only in first place by two games! They won 15 out of 16, and now it’s going to pot..
But for the past 30 days, they are only a .500 ball team. Not the way to win a division, though right [...]

Santa Ana’s Vending Machines May Go on a Diet - Los Angeles Times
I’m wondering….. if very small amounts of the healthy vending machine food sell, in relation to the traditional, “you take 1 year off your life for each bite” vending machine snacks, will they allow the healthy stuff to sit on the shelf and [...]

Fishermen Are Rescued After Months Adrift - Los Angeles Times
That’s a version of Gilligan’s Island I would never want to be on. I’m just surprised they stayed alive for so long.
Just some very very lucky fishermen.

Factory Shift: Manufacturers Struggle to Fill Highly Paid Jobs - Los Angeles Times
From personal experience, working for several companies, I can only agree that finding a highly qualified person is difficult for manufacturing positions. Particularly for modern, clean, highly automated manufacturing lines, there just are not the people qualified for the job. I’ve been more [...]

Scotland: Swords ban to beat violent crime

Scotland to ban swords to beat violent crime
Wow…. just do a word copy and replace on either “knife” or “sword” with “gun”, and you have an article out of the US.
I wonder, if in 10 years, when half the murders are committed with blunt objects, if tree limbs, cricket (baseball) bats and the like will [...]

A good deal at Fry’s

Sunday, August 13th, 2006

Found a good deal at Fry’s today. A 150 dollar red tagged 20 cubic foot freezer. We’ve been looking for one to store frozen squid for use as bait, and I’ve found freezers for 300 bucks for a 15 cubic foot chest freezer, or 400 bucks for a 15 cubic foot stand up freezer. I [...]

Cursed Cell Phones

Sunday, August 13th, 2006

I’ve called several people’s cell phones today… and each time, my call went straight to voice mail. Most disturbing. I know it’s not my phone, as I actually get the voice mail, and when I call a land line, I can get through.
I think most of the people I’ve called today who have had [...]
