Lynn (I believe you met her) had a customer service with T-Mobile this weekend. I mentioned to her cousin that you'd think these companies would realize that everyone has a webpage or blog or whatever, and people talk. Bad customer service stories take off fast now. Companies that throw up roadblocks in front of thier customers will stick out like a sore thumb.

Credit unions aren't ideal, but they beat the living Hell out of BofA and Wells.

So I go to write an email to Wells, off of their secure email page. You have to log in to do so. I can no longer log in, as I declined their offer of electronic usage.

What a bitch...

Also, most credit unions belong to a single network, so you can deposit and withdraw without paying a fee at the ATM.

I lived 3000 miles from my bank for 6 years and I never had a problem, between direct deposit, fee-free ATM, and online account access.

I haven't been in a bank since we opened the account.

WaMu screwed us over BIG TIME. Don't go with them.

J had an account with them that was supposed to be fee free, and they screwed up and started charging him a monthly fee. Well, when you're a broke college student, it doesn't take long to run through your $$ with a monthly fee, and then when we tried to close they account, they wouldn't. We ended up paying them more than $50 just to get the account closed because they kept piling on fees.

Even though it was their mistake in the first place.

I'm pretty much opposed to WaMu, at least here in South Gate. They have a fancy anit bank robbery system, which means only one person can enter OR leave the bank at a time. In practice, that means one person every 45 to 60 seconds. They are right across the street from Wells here though.

One thing I do like about Washington Mutual, is the last time I checked, they had pretty good (roughly 4.5%) 9 month CD's.

I already have the Credit Union account for a very small amount of savings and credit card, but I'd need to open a checking with them for more detailed activities. That, and they're down in Orange County, and don't have any easy access in South Gate.

I'm with WaMu, and haven't had any problems... after moving from bank to bank (7 banks, seriously) for 5 years, i've finally settled with them.

I was misinformed (lied to?) by a BofA employee about their international charges, and opened an account with them to save money on my trip last year... Yeah, they only charge a $1.50 for the withdrawal fee, but they charge an additional 5% for a currency conversion fee! WaMu only charges $3 flat... no matter what you pull out -- $500 = $3 fee; $20 = $3 fee. Needless to say I switched everything back over to my WaMu account and closed the BofA account when I got back to the states.

Lessons learned: if it ain't broke, don't fix it; read the small print EVERY TIME!
