Raining in Mammoth

This is just wrong…. It’s December, and it’s raining in Mammoth. 40 degrees outside, here at the house. We’re at 8250 feet, and the some of the ski lifts are at this level. Not the greatest time to be up on the mountain.

I was up earlier today, when it was just cloudy and windy. Not too bad, but my legs are a bit out of shape for even moderate moguls. Better than I was yesterday though. A few hours yesterday, a few hours today, and hopefully some more each day the remainder of this week.

I’ve taken the dogs out on two walks this morning. They’d want to go out again, for more, even with the rain, but I think it’s going to wait till the rain turns into snow tonight. I did shovel a lot of the ice and snow build up along the curb, to keep the snow melt and rain run off flowing smoothly down the street. It’s a very painful thing when the water freezes at the bottom of the driveway, in a large pool of ice.

after raining all night long, it started to snow about 8am. The snow level was supposed to be at 8000 feet, but we’re at 8250 here, and had a good sized river running down the gutter this morning. The snow level is supposed to drop to 6000 feet as the low moves through, and we’re supposed to get only a few inches of snow in town.

That all being said, it’s a damp heavy snow right now. I just got done helping the annoying cousin put chains on her car. Not too bad really, but it’s still annoying. Shoveling all the snow out from around the tires was a chore though.
