Farallon Island Whale Watching trip

I was up in the Bay Area this weekend, visiting Ben for a whale watching trip the Farallon Islands. Then he and I met Sandro in San Jose for the soccer game, but the Galaxy lost 2-1.

I’ll be posting more pictures, and probably a full thumbnail page about the trip later this week. I also have some pretty kick ass video that I hope to get up online this week as well. I caught a humpback whale broaching out of the water! I was zoomed out, just waiting for him to surface, and maybe show a little fin, and then *bam* he comes up in a big spray of water.

But that will be later this week.

oh, and go check out Ben’s pictures He did a much better write up on the trip than I did. Say hello there!

The Golden Gate Bridge had some fog around it in the morning.

Humpback fin
I’m trying to decide if this Humpback whale was flipping us off, or just trying to show us some tail. I’m hoping the whale was just a tease…..

I don’t need something weighing 65 tons mad enough at me to flip me off likc that.

more orcas!
We came across a group of 7 Orcas swimming towards the Farallons. They are after sea lion meat. And they scare the great white sharks away. This group has been around the islands for about 2 weeks now, so shark season will probably be pretty short or nonexistent

Male Orca Fin
The lone male orca of the pack was easily identifable by his larger fin.

Fort Point
When we returned, the sun was out for a bright and beautiful day. I want to say that it was because I was there. You can be the judge of that though…
