quick notes
My parents are back from Norway. I’ll post pictures from their trip sometime tomorrow or next week.
This weekend, I’m going up to the bay area to see Ben and do some whale watching. Then after that, see Sandro at a soccer game. Former housemate Ed is supposed to drive up with me, but I haven’t heard anything from him in the past two weeks. I’m sure he’ll turn up though.
My annoying cousin Elizabeth (who has not posted anything in her blog since April, so she gets no link) is moving into Cal State Long Beach this weekend.
Helen tried to get me to help her move into her new place on Labor Day weekend, by having her new roommate try to sweet talk me. But I know both of them are taken, so they need to work harder at getting my free labor. Nice try ladies… but not quite there yet.
Ed and I figured out what was wrong the Wellcraft, from the trip Andy and I did back in July. Broken fuel pick up line in the fuel tank. Hopefully, we can fix this without pulling out the entire tank.
I started today off at 5:25 waking up and getting out of bed. Then at 5:30, as I’m about to hop in the shower, the phone rings, saying there is a problem at work. I get there by 6:15, do a temporary fix, then get a permanent one done by 10:30 at their lunch break, and stay till 5pm.
The military is doing their part by building small lasers to mount on airplanes. But I want to know, can I get one mounted on a shark? It would make this weekend’s trip more interesting.
Oh yes, the Dodgers lost again tonight. I really want to follow the decline, and go to some more games this season. But why should I help McCourt get to 3 or 4 million visitors again for putting up such a crappy team, that pales in comparison to last years?
I’m really pissed at DC comics for continuing the “Crazy woman year” series in Batman #644 this week. I’m even more pissed off about this latest move(not work safe!). They trash a very good, strong character, for something akin to temporary insanity. They killed off a popular and loved character last year by the same means(different story, too long for here). Where they go with this I don’t know, but I am starting to hope all of this gets erased when they have their latest “Crisis” late this year. That’s their term for having a planned, continuity changing event, that destroys and recreates the history of a character. It’s a large form of RetCon.
That being said, Legion of SuperHeros this week was great, mostly for the letter column pointing out continuity issues with a book from 5 years ago. That’s the problem with stories set 1000 years in the future, what you write now can change what happens then. The way they handled it, Breaking the Fourth Wall was great…. The editor comes down, and changes the question the reader asked in the letter column, because it was too much of a pain to answer.
That’s enough for now, I need to make a few more updates(mostly books I’ve read and finished), but we shall see.
