ok, I’ve been back for over a day now. But I’ve been relaxing away from the computer. The trip was fun, I packed too much food, hurt my leg on the first day, and have been hobbling ever since.
We left Los Angeles a little after 6am on Sunday, May 22nd. We arrived in the Kaibab National Forest, on North Rim of the Grand Canyon a little after 6pm (Arizona does not honor Daylight Saving’s Time). We did some minor sight seeing, stopping off at Crazy Jug Point, where we encountered a British couple and two early 20s Dutch girls.
After a good night’s sleep, we started hiking at 6:30 on Monday morning. In retrospect, we should of started around 5:30 or earlier, but it was nice to sleep in, while being out doors.

We quickly got to the top of Monument Point, the highest elevation on this hike, and over looked Cogswell Butte to the center, with Tapeats Canyon on the left and Deer Creek to the right

The trail down from Monument Point was steep, and strenuous. I probably had too much weight in my pack, well over 60 pounds. I wanted to keep the weight off my dad’s back. I probably could of cut out 2/3’s of the food I was carrying. Going down the hill, I think I stepped wrong on a grade, and my right leg started to bother me. By the time we got to the main descent into Surprise Valley, I couldn’t carry my pack. By this time, it was a little after 1pm. Bob went ahead with his pack to fill up on water, and come back for my pack. I got to the campsite a little after 6pm, and Bob returned with my pack about 9pm.
Unfortunatly, we were all so tired at that point, that we didn’t cook the froze shrimp I had brought. So that went bad over the night, and had to be thrown away.

I will be posting at least 3 more pages worth of pictures detailing the next few days, in the course of the coming week.
