skiing fun
Things have not gone as planned, but that is acceptable. Ed didn’t want to leave at 4am yesterday, owing to the fact that he has been up early much of this week. I did not ask him how early, or how that portends to me, since I know I am up early every day, even on weekends.
So we left around 6:30am, and arrived in Mammoth at about 11:30. I had thought about going skiing yesterday, and even with our late arrival, this was still acceptable. But instead, I decided to read, and eat sugar cookies. Nothing like settling down eating sugar cookies. The wind was blowing by the time we had turkey, and it felt as if it might snow. All we had in the morning was a light dusting, less than half an inch.
Today, after a hearty breakfast of bacon and waffles, we went up skiing. I did not carry my camera, but I have posted pictures of similar days before. Blue skies, sunshine. A few high clouds blowing around, and a good deal of wind at the top. The higher runs were icy, with fresh snow down below, blown from the top of the mountain. Nothing like skating on ice, then plunging into 3 inches of powder.
On the way back, my toe began hurting. As some of you know, I have a predisposition to in grown toe nails. Now, this was not bleeding, but it was sore, and I could tell it would affect my walk in a few days. Lacking proper equipment(ie, my usual toe nail clippers), I used my my trusty mini-leatherman’s curved hook section. I pulled out a few pieces of toe nail, which for some reason on me, grows faster at the edge than in the center, creating a point that juts into the skin. I poked and prodded, and used the scissors a bit, and took out a few pieces of nail. Pressure is relieved a bit, and we shall see if the red swelling goes down.

Thank you Bill for that graphic image. It was captivating. In other news, Bob
was puked on last night.
