Snow!

Well, my dad left at 4am to take my grandmother to Vegas for Thanksgiving. But I 15 in the Cajon pass closed due to snow. So they cut up through the 14 and Lancaster, then 58 across to Barstow. Then Baker Hill was closed due to snow also, so they took the long way by Death Valley, stopped by the ranch, and cut across to Vegas.

On the way back, my dad heard 15 as open, so he goes south on it. Then they close 15 around the state line, and he’s stuck in the middle of the back up from Primm to Jean, about 15 miles. So he’s back tracking again, to Amaragosa, and down through Death Valley Junction. Turning a nice 4 hour each way trip, into 10 hours up, and who knows how many back….

In other news, I got my bike out of storage. Filled the tires up, all that good stuff. When I was at Carpenter, we had utility/work tricycles for motoring around the facility. All with the brake on the pedal, so you just push back on the pedals and you stop. Very funny how fast the human body adjusts to that, and forgets to use the hand brake. But a few more days of practice, and I should be good as new. Who ever forgets how to ride a bike entirely right? My hope is if I do at least half a mile a day (and most of the time I’m going to do this will be before 6am, or after 6pm, so it’s dark), my legs will be in decent shape for skiing next weekend. Now it’s a matter of follow through

To end the evening, my mom cooked taco’s over at Ed’s place. Nice, and quiet.

It’s chilly tonight, but I’m still not going to turn the heater on. I’m a cheapskate that way, and I’ll try to minimize expenses for the next few months. But I’ll probably eat out at least 2 meals a day, cause I’m even lazier than I am cheap. On occasion.
