Mammoth skiing
I skied yesterday and today. We woke up this morning to find snow falling from the sky. This scared everyone but Justin and I, and since Justin had bought a 2 day pass, he wanted to make sure he used it. We skied about 3 hours today, through clouds and snow and wind. But it was nice, a bit powdery. Damp though, so the snow was heavy and hard to turn in. But not as bad as I’ve seen other times.
I got separated from Justin on the first run because I stopped to help a chick stranded on the slopes. She was falling out of her bindings every turn it seemed. So I offered to help, tightened up her bindings a bit with my screwdriver. Then I noticed her bindings were set for different size boots. Once I made sure they were set for the same size, she was doing fine. Only her third time skiing it seems, so it’s forgivable on her part, but not on the company that rented her skis at all.
We had an uneventful drive back, a little rain here and there. We got into Justin’s parent’s place at about 7:30. They were out, but his sister was in. I showed her the pics of Justin sitting in the snow. She laughed. She asked if he could keep up with Ed and I. I said yes, and Justin related a story I had not heard. Saturday, as we were going up the lift, Ed asked Justin if he was “proficient”. He said he thought so. After the first run, where Ed beat everyone down the hill, Justin asked what Ed thought. Justin said he said “proficient enough” or something like that. Sarah just laughed, saying “that’s such a typical DeWitt word, proficient, instead of ‘how good are you?’” Which, now that I think about it, it is. I’ve found since I’ve been at Carpenter and RSI, I haven’t used “DeWitt” words as often as before, but certain things still strike me as the right way to say them. I have to wonder where Sarah gets knowing DeWitt words, unless it’s just repeated stories from her dad and brother. Cause she never to my knowledge hung out with Ed or I at all in high school.
But… afterall this I’m sore. My thighs were killing me on moguls. Oh, I was doing ok, but I need to be doing better, particularly if I’m going to go up again at Veteran’s Day and Thanksgiving weekends, let alone at Christmas time. But what good work outs are there for bending and twisting of the thighs?

I know of far too many moves that work out your thighs. It actually scares me how many i know. Damn knee injuries, they’ve forced me to be knowledgeable in such things. I’ll enlighten you if you wish, but i personally like the skiing everyday idea better.

Ok, skiing every day it is. That’s going to be one killer commute from LA, so I hope that bullet train gets built soon.
Seriously though, another 2 or 4 days of skiing, and I’ll be fine.

I don’t know how to prevent the sore muscles but I do know that a hot tub would sure ease the pain

It all keeps coming back to that hot tub I see. I really should get that in next spring then.

I agree with Amanda, Hot Tub in the Mamoth house would be a good way to ease the pain of skiing all day.

Hah! See, I’m not the only one. Other people are climbing on board with the hot tub idea. It’s been my experience that you can’t have a bad party when a hot tub is involved. I’ve made my point, I’ll leave it alone.

Fine, Fine…. hot tub it is. Nice for relaxing after the fact, but doesn’t help out on anything before the skiing. Unless one must hop in the hot tub in the morning, ski, then hop in afterwards.
That thought has promise I think.
